Freeing up disk space before converting to a backup server

  • Updated

Question:

I have two Akips appliances on the network. The old one has 79% full disk usage and I would like to make it as Backup. Do you know how I can accomplish to free up disk space?

Answer:

The best way to remove all the old data and logs from the old server is to just reinstall the AKIPS software. A backup server does not need to have an AKIPS licence. When you make it into a backup server and if your backup server is running in a VM, adding more disk space is usually as simple as:
  1. Power down the backup server using Admin > System > System Shutdown menu and select "Shutdown Server".
  2. Extend the virtual disk image in VMware.
  3. Then restart the VM and the disk will be automatically resized.
