sFlow support?

Brian Lehigh

We have several Juniper devices that only support sFlow.  Any chance we could get sFlow support added?  I've seen this question raised a few times over the past several years on the forums but have never seen a formal response from AKIPS.
We really like the Netflow implementation in AKIPS.  It works well with our Cisco equipment but not having visibility for our Juniper gear is disappointing.

    Hi Brian,

I'll give you the most formal answer I am aware of, that came from the founder. sFlow != Netflow. And as a sampled collection method it was not seen as a good fit for for the product. If you run a flow report for an IP to see the conversations in netflow you can be 100% sure it is presenting accurately. But with sFlow you can only be x% sure. With enough sampling that percentage goes up but never to 100 and so can you rely on it?

I completely understand the frustration, and thankfully i'm usually able to find somewhere else in the network to get netflow from which completes the picture. Junipers sFlow or jFlow has frustrated me for years.

I know that a Netflow re-write is something being considered and so it could be tabled then, but it's not something that will likely happen in the near term.

    Hope that helps

    Mick
